#Paraguay: Calls for justice in the murder of Andrea González, a trans woman.

Andrea González was murdered in December 2016 in Ciudad del Este. She was 20 years old and had a hearing impairment. This is the first transphobic murder in Paraguay where the Prosecutor's Office has filed charges, but there are reports that a witness has been threatened and the main suspect is under house arrest. A march was held to demand that the crime not go unpunished. "They kill us and no one goes to jail."

Amid calls for justice for the transphobic murder of Ayelén Gómez, killed three weeks ago, the bill establishing a quota for transgender employment was scheduled to be debated today in the Tucumán Legislature. However, a procedural motion sent the bill to committee. “It’s the same as sending it to its death,” Fabián Vera del Barco told Presentes.

Neighbors attack a lesbian couple: they had to leave their home

Dominique Moreau and Melannie León lived in downtown Santiago, Chile, until last Friday. They had to leave their home after three neighbors insulted them, threatened them with a gun, and vandalized the front of their house. Today they will file a police report, and the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation (Movilh) confirmed to Presentes that it will be a plaintiff in the case. 

They denounce that banks violate AIDS laws and discriminate against people living with HIV.

Banco Galicia is violating Argentina's AIDS law, which guarantees confidentiality regarding personal information, and Banco Supervielle denied two mortgage loans to people living with HIV. These are not isolated cases, but they rarely receive attention. Due to issues like these, as well as complaints about labor and healthcare systems, the Huésped Foundation receives approximately 2,700 complaints annually.

#PublicConsultation: LGBTI policies stalled in the region, according to complaints.

At the Fifth LGBTI Public Consultation, convened by the Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights (IPPDH) of MERCOSUR, more than 70 organizations from the region analyzed and debated how states protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people. Stagnation and setbacks were discussed, and concrete proposals were made for more and better public policies that guarantee these rights.
