Agencia Presentes will offer an online workshop for journalists working in media outlets in Argentina, Peru, Paraguay, and Chile. Two virtual sessions will be held during the third week of July. Space is limited and applications will be selected.
How should we approach news stories about the LGBTI community? That's the main question we'll address in the workshop "Presentes: Tools for Gender-Sensitive Journalism." The workshop aims to analyze how issues of sexual diversity—often made invisible or stigmatized—can shape the journalistic agenda and become ways to combat discrimination.
It's geared toward journalists and communicators from Argentina, Peru, Paraguay, and Chile.
Starting with a situational analysis, we'll work with special guests, experts in these fields, to develop best journalistic practices. The
workshop is coordinated by the directors of Presentes: María Eugenia Ludueña and Ana Fornaro.
The workshop's key points
1) How do major media outlets cover LGBTI issues? Diagnosis and case analysis.
2) Theoretical framework. Glossary and definitions.
3) Towards good journalistic practices. Sources and key figures. How to report from a human rights perspective. Mistakes to avoid.
4) Stories, news, investigations: production, approaches, writing, and editing.

We are present
This and other stories are not usually on the media agenda. Together we can bring them to light.

I think it's a good initiative for the LGBTI community that will help us show the world, through reports, what our community is really like and the contributions we make to society as individuals and professionals.
