It is false that there are 240 hormone treatment centers in the province of Buenos Aires.

After a massive anti-fascist and anti-racist march, the president once again spread disinformation and lies about LGBTQ+ issues. He provided false information about centers and support services for transgender people.

In an interview with Javier Milei broadcast last night on the La Nación channel, following a massive Antifascist and Antiracist March , the president once again attacked LGBTQ+ groups, this time targeting transgender people. In conversation with Esteban Trebucq, Milei again sowed hatred and confusion on various issues, including transgender people.

“Did you know that there are 240 hormone therapy centers in the province of Buenos Aires? I think it’s horrifying. Do you think a minor is in a position to know? From my point of view, amputating a child’s genitals while filling their head with this idea of separating gender from biology is not without consequences,” Milei said, spreading the same misinformation disseminated globally by anti-rights groups.

Sources from the Ministry of Health of the province of Buenos Aires informed Presentes that “the Buenos Aires Network for the care and attention of LGBT+ people, as of December 2024, is made up of 142 public health establishments. And according to a survey carried out in 2023, we know that of that total, 29 establishments provide support to children and adolescents.”

The same source explained what this support entails and categorically denied the existence of genital mutilation. “In some cases, what is done is a process of pubertal delay, so that these boys and girls can decide later what they want to do.”

These 142 clinics have professional teams to serve LGBT people, “especially the trans population, because a study indicated that their life expectancy is 35 years, half that of the rest of the population,” said the Buenos Aires Province Health Minister, Nicolás Kreplak, this morning in an interview with Víctor Hugo Morales on Radio 750. There, the minister clarified that these are not hormone therapy centers. They work with children, but they do not administer hormones. “Above all, and this is absolutely false, gender reassignment surgeries are not performed on minors,” Kreplak stated.

Early this morning Kreplak had already pointed out Milei's lies from his X account.

The relationship between genital mutilation and trans children only exists in Milei's head.

Indeed, genital mutilation is a practice that intersex groups have suffered and continue to denounce. Similarly, LGBT+ activists have been denouncing so-called conversion therapies —referred to by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of the LGBTIQ+ community as Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Change Efforts (SOGECE)—to which LGBTIQ+ people are still being subjected, now with more sophisticated strategies, as we explain in this investigation .

No gender identity law—as has been shared in other Presenes articles—seeks to "mutilate," "hormone-inducer," or "operate" on transgender children. According to this database , at the regional level, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Chile have guidelines, laws, or precedents that guarantee the recognition of gender identity for minors. In some cases, this is guaranteed administratively, in others through the courts. But medical or surgical accreditation, or hormonal treatment, is never required.

It is important to remember that identity is a right. And Advisory Opinion 24/17 of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ( IACHR ) maintains that the recognition of gender identity for transgender people, both minors and adults, must be guaranteed without requiring proof of medical or surgical interventions, hormonal treatments, or other procedures.

In last night's interview, the president also lashed out against Law 27.636, the Diana Sacayán-Lohana Berkins Law Promoting Access to Formal Employment for Transvestite, Transsexual, and Transgender People. He expressed his opposition not only to the transvestite and transgender employment quota but also to policies and laws that promote equality.
