"I was fired after 16 years: I was the only trans person in that Ministry."

Casandra Sandoval is a feminist journalist, trans activist, and national secretary of the CFTTA (Argentine Trans and Travesti Federal Assembly). Since 2002, she has worked on the team of the Undersecretary of Family Farming at the Ministry of Agroindustry. A week ago, she received her dismissal notice after working for almost 16 years on a precarious contract. She (the only trans person in that Ministry), along with 16 colleagues from Salta, is fighting for immediate reinstatement and permanent positions.

Gender in media dispute: "They're using this to roll back rights"

This week, national news portals, newspapers and television programs gave extensive coverage to what they described as a “gender scam”, “abuse” or “deception” and a “legal loophole” in the case of Sergia Lazarovich, a woman from Tucumán who resides in Salta, an AFIP employee, who changed her registered status, according to her coworkers, “to receive her pension earlier”.

Salta: They created a trans services cooperative to live off their work

With the trans employment quota law stalled in the Salta legislature, groups of trans women and men have created their own alternative: they've formed a cooperative offering services such as design, tutoring, construction, painting, and technical support for phones and computers, among others. The initiative has been very well received. They plan to expand their services soon and include trans people from other towns.
