3 years since the transfemicide of Laura Moyano: family and friends marched in her neighborhood

Laura Moyano was a 35-year-old trans woman. She lived in the 9 de Julio neighborhood and was actively involved in the community, which made her very beloved by her neighbors. She volunteered for community projects, was part of the Women's Group at Health Center No. 34, and was finishing primary school at the Saúl Taborda School. On July 25, 2015, Laura was found murdered in an abandoned lot in Villa Allende Parque. Her body had been brutally beaten. Her family alleges that the police released images of her body, which then went viral, before they were formally notified of the murder.

Pride in struggle: thousands marched against transvesticide and transfemicide

Fueled by the landmark ruling in the Diana Sacayán transvesticide case and a powerful mobilization, the 3rd National March “Stop Transvesticide and Transfemicide” brought thousands of people out of their homes. Unlike previous demonstrations, where only transvestites and trans people and some members of the LGBTI community participated, this time the “green wave” feminist movement, with its contingent from the Campaign for Legal Abortion, was joined by Nora Cortiñas, a Mother of Plaza de Mayo, and Sergio Maldonado, brother of Santiago Maldonado.

#DianaSacayán: "Diana gave everything for her family and her community"

Today was the second hearing of the public trial for the transvesticide of Diana Sacayán, murdered in October 2015. As on Monday, there were two parallel events: one outside the Palace of Justice in the City of Buenos Aires, where diversity activists, artists and members of the public accompanied the family and showed their support for the trial from 9 a.m., and another inside, where the hearing took place, starting after 11 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
