What is sexile? A Peruvian filmmaker embarked on a project to explain it.

Lucía Florez is a Peruvian audiovisual communicator specializing in portraying inequality at all levels: from environmental to social. This led to the creation of her production company, El Taller, which focuses primarily on environmental issues. Previously, she created and produced the series Siete y Cuarto: six audiovisual pieces that depict the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Peru.

Cordoban filmmaker Daniel Tortosa explains why his documentary "Los Maricones" (which can be viewed in its entirety here) addresses the repression of gay and trans people during the last dictatorship, but it doesn't end there. Released in 2016, the testimonies recover marginalized voices and warn of the return of punitivism and police harassment of dissident sexual identities.

#PERU LGBT series and videos on the internet, against sexism and transphobia

Peru's first LGBT web series, "Don't Mess With My Boyfriend," already has a large audience eagerly awaiting its second season. It's not an isolated phenomenon: videos showcasing open relationships and films starring trans people, like "Without a Vagina, I'm Marginalized," are also popular. While television barely includes sexual diversity, often relegating it to the category of "curious characters," online, LGBTQ+ identities are building new frameworks for identification and positive reference.

Until July 15, the Lesbigaytrans Film Festival is showcasing more than 47 titles in Asunción: feature films, short films, and documentaries with LGBTQ+ themes. Two of the filmmakers from the new generation participating in the festival, Sonia Moura and Bruno A. Comas, told Presentes why they seek to build a Paraguayan LGBTQ+ film scene free of stereotypes.
