Presentes, Journalism, Gender and Human Rights is a feminist civil society communication organization that seeks to bring socially significant issues, often underrepresented in mainstream media, to the forefront. It does so from a human rights perspective, with journalistic quality and innovative formats.

Mission

To make visible violence, hate crimes and the struggles of vulnerable populations and human rights defenders in order to influence public opinion, combating discrimination and misinformation.

Expanding the impact of media coverage and freedom of expression in Latin America through training for journalists.

Vision

To practice specialized and rigorous journalism in its investigative capacity and data construction in collaboration with its protagonists and civil society organizations.

Projects

Present Agency

It is a regional news agency based in Buenos Aires. We cover current events related to sexual diversity in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala from a human rights perspective as a way to combat discrimination. In 2019, it was declared "of interest for the defense and promotion of human rights" by the Buenos Aires City Legislature.

We were born in 2016 to make visible the violence against transvestite, transsexual, transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and intersex people, but also to account for the conquest of the collective, its social, political and cultural networks.

WikiLGBT+

Wiki LGBT+ Human Rights is a partnership between Agencia Presentes and WikiDDHH (Wikimedia Argentina) for inclusive communication about diversity on Wikipedia. Initially, it received support from a grant from the Canadian Embassy (2018), and we developed workshops for activists, communicators, and journalism students at the Communication Sciences program (Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Buenos Aires), in San Miguel de Tucumán (Argentina), and at the TEDIC Media Library in Asunción (Paraguay).

In 2019 we held a workshop in partnership with the local feminist media outlet Periódicas in the city of Santa Fe.

We are convinced that access to information is a right and a tool for social change.

In 2019, there was a spike in violence against LGBT+ people in Argentina, and we created this map with activists to systematize data on hate crimes against people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities in Argentina. This project was made possible thanks to the support of Counterpart.
