Inspiring stories to transform gender-based violence

Oxfam's Regional Platform for Latin America carried out the "Transformative Actions" campaign as part of the 16 Days of Activism. The winning stories were illustrated by Florencia Capella.

Oxfam's Regional Platform for Latin America carried out the "Transformative Actions" campaign within the framework of the 16 days of activism, to promote commitment to the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence against LGBTIQ+ people, women and girls.

Therefore, through the #InspiringStories contest, it compiled 16 stories from activists in different countries of the region that show how violence is transformed through large or small actions.

Presentes Latam was selected as an allied organization to promote the campaign, and therefore 8 of the chosen stories were illustrated by the artist Florencia Capella .

All the material will be presented in an Instagram Live session where Oxfam and Agencia Presentes will discuss alternative media and its role in preventing violence . Todas, a feminist media outlet from Puerto Rico, will also participate.

Latin America and the Caribbean: the region with the most violence

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Latin America and the Caribbean was already the most violent region in the world overall, and particularly for women. This situation worsened after the pandemic crisis. The same is true for LGBTIQ+ people, with some of the highest rates of murders of trans people, especially in Central America.
