Schools in Buenos Aires province added the trans, transvestite and non-binary categories to their registration lists

Resolution No. 2584 considered the terminology used in the forms of the 2022 National Population, Households and Housing Census.

Transgender, non-binary, and other gender-diverse people will have access to registration forms that respect their gender identity for the 2023 census. This was announced by the General Directorate of Culture and Education (DGCyE) of Buenos Aires Province . Resolution No. 2584 adopted the terminology used in the forms for the 2022 National Population, Household, and Housing Census.

The new form offers six options in the gender identity section: “Woman”, “Trans woman/transvestite” , “Male”, “Trans man/trans masculinity”, “Non-binary” , “Other” and “Do not wish to answer”.

The resolution also stipulates that all institutional administrative documentation and communication between schools and families must adapt their terms to the new gender categories used.

“Guidelines for completing the school registration application” was prepared aimed at the management teams of educational establishments, with the objective of providing appropriate guidance to students and their families.

Goals

The General Directorate of Culture and Education (DGCyE) of Buenos Aires also commits to:

– Recognize new family configurations in accordance with National Law No. 26,618 on Equal Marriage.

– Incorporate inclusive language with the intention of giving gender equality in visibility.

– Update and improve the quality of the information collected for availability to both schools and the central level (from the upload to the nominal system “My Students”).
