Eight months ago, the Uruguayan Parliament approved l
the Comprehensive Law for Trans People It proposes the creation and promotion of affirmative action—both public and private—to try to reduce the persistent discrimination faced by one of the country's most vulnerable populations. The legislation establishes measures to integrate transgender people into all areas from which they have been historically excluded, including the workplace. In this regard, the law mandates that state agencies allocate 1% of job positions to this population.
Last Friday, OSE became the first government agency to meet this quota by opening a job posting exclusively for transgender people. The posting is for three seasonal laborer positions to work between December 2nd of this year and April 1st, 2020, with a monthly salary of 28,930 pesos. Registration can only be done online, by completing a form found at [website address missing].
www.ose.com.uyApplications are open until Monday, July 15th. In addition to general requirements—such as Uruguayan citizenship—and more specific requirements—such as being between 18 and 45 years old—OSE requires interested individuals to submit proof that they have completed or are in the process of legally changing their name or gender on their identity documents, or have applied for the Uruguay Social Trans Card and submitted the Sworn Statement to the National Civil Service Office.
