Rapper and LGBTQ+ activist Kevin Fret , 24, was shot and killed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, early Thursday morning. He was considered the first openly gay trap
According to the BBC, the Puerto Rican artist was shot eight times while riding his motorcycle through the streets of the capital in the early hours of January 10th. He was taken to the nearest hospital, but nothing could be done to save him. San Juan police have opened an investigation to clarify what happened.
The Puerto Rican artist gained popularity through social media. Soon after, he made the leap to music and launched himself as a trap singer. With his unique style, he broke with the genre's stereotypes and caused a sensation when he came out as gay.
The release of the song "Soy así" this year became a hit with over half a million streams. "I don't care what people have to say about me. I'm going to act like this, with my blonde hair, my black nails, showing my belly, looking radiant from head to toe," she said in one of her last interviews with Paper last year. "I see young gay men and lesbians who now see me as a role model."
In June 2018, Fret reported on social media that he had been assaulted by a man in Miami. He stated that he would not allow himself to become a victim of discrimination.
