An unprecedented campaign is plastering the streets of Lima and other major cities across the country. #ConMisHijosNoTeMetas (Don't Mess With My Children) is advancing with its posters against the inclusion of "gender ideology" in the school curriculum. On the other side, an analysis from an activist with #NoTengoMiedo (I'm Not Afraid). Production: Chola Contravisual By Brunella Landi (#LIMA) – In Peru, as in many countries, not being heterosexual presents a series of challenges. To all of them—ranging from dodging death to suffering bullying at school, at the state, and within families—is now added the face of mass harassment from a movement that openly identifies as homophobic. #ConMisHijosNoTeMetas (Don't Mess With My Children) is a campaign promoted by leaders of Christian churches and religious fundamentalists. While they have spoken out against LGBTQ+ rights for years, they are now gaining a stronger regional presence. The number of people mobilized by #ConMisHijosNoTeMetas (Don't Mess With My Kids), their banners, conferences, international guests, and billboards reveal that this is a multimillion-dollar campaign. And it is unleashing a wave of free rein to hurl insults and commit acts of hatred against non-heterosexual people in the country.
Against inclusive and diverse education
The movement began to gain traction in late November, ahead of the imminent introduction of a gender equality perspective into the National Basic Education Curriculum, aimed at fostering inclusive and diverse education. #ConMisHijosNoTeMetas (Don't Mess With My Children) became a trending topic on social media. It seeks to overturn an educational plan for secular and non-discriminatory teaching. It intensified with the gains of the last few weeks For the LGBTQ+ community. Today more than ever, LGBTQ+ rights groups and activists are working to stop this ideology of hate.Follow Presentes:
