Another homophobic attack in Buenos Aires: two in 48 hours

In less than 48 hours, two young people were physically attacked because of their sexual orientation in very close proximity to each other in the City of Buenos Aires. Both incidents occurred in the early morning hours. Presentes consulted the records of the Buenos Aires LGBT Ombudsman's Office: reports of attacks and human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity increased dramatically in 2016.

Higui de Jesús will remain in prison: they are asking for a change in her defense.

More than one hundred people gathered in front of the Malvinas Argentinas Prosecutor's Office to support the family, who demanded and obtained their first meeting with the prosecutor in the case, Germán Muñoz Weigel. There, they learned that there had been no progress in recent months and that further evidence was needed to change the charges or request his release.

"Higui is feeling stronger and eager to be released soon."

This was stated by Carolina Abregú, a representative of the Gender Advocacy Office in Malvinas Argentinas, who is in constant contact with the family of Analía de Jesús, detained at the San Martín police station since October 16. Higui is accused of "simple homicide" after defending herself against a group of men who attacked her for being a lesbian and attempted to rape her. In an interview with Presentes, Abregú referred to the letter Higui sent her from jail last January, which has recently gone viral.
