Why does a person from a diverse sexual/cultural background have to be in Congress or the Legislature?

Firstly, because we have the same rights to civic participation as everyone else. And, on a more specific level, our experiences and journeys are often enriching for developing legislation and promoting projects that address the realities of the most vulnerable sectors of society, in most cases.

When did you decide to run for office and why?

It was a decision made by my internal faction, CONFLUIR, led by Leandro Halperin. He told me hours before the list was finalized; it was a big surprise.

How do you think hatred can be combated through politics?

Combating hate through politics is essential for fostering coexistence and building more just and harmonious societies. Some strategies include education and awareness-raising, responsible discourse, responsible media, and anti-discrimination laws with criminal penalties.

Did you think of any strategies to respond to the smear campaigns and disinformation against LGBT people in the media?

Provide accurate, evidence-based information on LGBT+ issues to counter misinformation. This may include media awareness campaigns that clarify common myths and misunderstandings. Promote education about the realities of LGBT people and the diversity of gender identities and sexual orientations.

How do we prevent a decline in rights?

I understand the concern surrounding the possibility of backsliding on rights, and it is entirely valid to feel that unease. To ensure that the progress achieved is not reversed, it is important to address this issue with sensitivity and strategy. Working on historical memory, building alliances, and maintaining dialogue, even with sectors that make us uncomfortable, must be part of understanding the meaning of our rights.

What is the first project you are going to present?

Inclusive Housing Law: Prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in access to housing and establish measures to guarantee equal opportunities, whether for buying or renting a home/boarding house/apartment.

Recommendation

A film, song, book, or cultural experience that politically influenced you?

The film "Milk" explores the challenges Milk faces as he confronts homophobia, discrimination, and political opposition. Despite the threats and difficulties, he persists in his fight, achieving significant victories, such as successfully opposing Proposition 6, a law that sought to ban gay teachers from public schools in San Francisco.
