Why does a person from a diverse sexual/cultural background have to be in Congress or the Legislature?
It's important to be able to give a voice to those of us who didn't have one, in my case, to the City Council. To continue fighting for all the rights we've won and to work harder for everything we still need. Our participation brings a non-binary, more inclusive, and loving perspective to politics.
When did you decide to run for office and why?
I decided to run for office based on the popular consensus of several organizations. We strongly believe in collective work for social justice. It is essential to open a channel of representation in the General La Madrid City Council, where everyone can present their projects and raise their concerns. And also to continue managing all public policies for our community.
How do you think hatred can be combated through politics?
With training in Micaela Law and gender perspective, with commissions in different Deliberative Councils of Women, Diversity and Gender.
Did you think of any strategies to respond to the smear campaigns and disinformation against LGBT people in the media?
When we are attacked, we respond with accurate information and try to engage in the necessary debate or propose some kind of workshop. If the aggression is personal, we resort to the justice system and the National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Racism.
How do we prevent a decline in rights?
We must be active and defend everything we've gained. And people need to know that right-wing governments are coming for our rights. In these election times, activism and dialogue are crucial so that people understand that not all governments are the same.
What is the first project you are going to present?
Implementation of the transvestite trans job quota and the creation of the Women, Diversity and Gender Commission in the Honorable Deliberative Council.
Recommendation
A film, song, book, or cultural experience that politically influenced you? There are several: Evita's "La Razón de mi vida" (The Reason for My Life); Peronist doctrine; and the first films and musicals about Evita's life. Also, the "Marcha Peronista" (Peronist March) and all the songs of the Peronist Youth and all the songs of La Cámpora.
