Mariela Muñoz: Trans mother and pioneer in the LGBT struggle

Mariela Muñoz was the first trans woman to be legally recognized as a woman on her national identity card. She was also one of the most famous mothers in Argentine history.

The story of Mariela Muñoz, the trans activist born in Lules (Tucumán) on December 24, 1943, grew up in the Buenos Aires municipality of Quilmes. At 14, she decided no one would ever call her by any name other than Mariela .
