Why Márquez's statements are false, homophobic, and dangerous
In statements on Ernesto Tenembaum's program on Radio con Vos, Nicolás Márquez, lawyer and representative of Javier Milei, made an apology for homophobia.

“When the State promotes, incentivizes, and finances homosexuality—as it has done until Javier Milei came onto the scene—it is encouraging self-destructive behavior,” said Nicolás Márquez, a lawyer, friend, and close associate of Javier Milei. This morning, on Ernesto Tenembaum’s program on Radio con Vos, Márquez made several statements filled with misinformation and hate.
Márquez, who co-authored * The Black Book of the New Left* , *Gender Ideology or Cultural Subversion , and presents himself as a lecturer and writer, attempts to conflate the protection of human rights with what they call “gender ideology.” And behind the *objective* lies misleading data and false claims.
FALSE: “When the State promotes, encourages and finances homosexuality, it is encouraging self-destructive behavior.”
No state 'promotes and encourages' homosexuality. People are diverse in sexual orientations and gender identities. That should not expose anyone to hatred or prejudice. The rights of same-sex couples and transgender people are protected by the Human Rights Convention.
It is the obligation of States to ensure the integrity of all persons and to protect their human rights, as required by the International Court of Human Rights .
To say that homosexuality is "promoted and encouraged" is an attempt to establish the idea that homosexuality is a "construct." If the State withdraws its support, it would cease to exist. Furthermore, it seeks to justify defunding state programs that range from the right to health to the right to work.
FALSE: “A person with homosexual tendencies lives 25 years (on average) less than a heterosexual person”
Márquez equates being an LGBT+ person with a pathology, this is FALSE.
On May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization (WHO) General Assembly removed homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). For this reason, the International Day Against Homophobia is commemorated annually on that date.
And if the information presented were true, what do we do? Do we take away his gayness? It could almost be interpreted as promoting so-called conversion therapies, classified as torture by the United Nations.
If an LGB+ person lives a shorter life, it is because of hatred and prejudice, and these kinds of statements on the radio only reinforce them.
FALSE AND DANGEROUS : "(Homosexual people) are 14 times more likely to commit suicide, 80% of people in the West with HIV are homosexual."
Homosexual people, although there are laws that protect them, suffer discrimination in different areas.
A recent survey in Mexico indicated that among LGBT individuals aged 13 to 17, those who received support in their families and schools showed better mental health outcomes . They also reported fewer suicidal thoughts, a sensitive topic that should not be amplified by potentially harmful ignorance on the radio.
MISLEADING: “I think it’s incredibly reckless for the State to be encouraging unhealthy, self-destructive behavior.”
Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, just like heterosexuality. It has nothing to do with self-destruction. Being LGBT+ is an identity, not a decision based on what they call "gender ideologies"—a nonexistent definition they are trying to impose.
These kinds of discourses instill hatred and prejudice through lies and deception. They seek to establish that the State encourages being LGBT+, denying our identity, justifying the defunding of rights-based initiatives such as education, health, and employment, and leading people to believe that it is possible to "stop being LGBT+" by choice or conversion. The State is responsible for ensuring the full exercise of rights under conditions of equality for all people.
