ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay. The Paraguayan Feminist Network called for a march on Saturday the 25th in Plaza Uruguaya. There, women from diverse sectors denounced violence and inequality, with a special focus on the structural increase in violence against girls, adolescents, and women.
Every two hours, a case of sexual abuse against children and adolescents is reported in Paraguay, totaling 17,156 victims in the last five years. Furthermore, according to the Observatory of the Center for Documentation and Studies , 41 femicides were recorded between January and November of this year.
Harassment and persecution
This year, the Articulation strongly denounced the cases of harassment and judicial persecution of journalists from traditional media outlets. It also protested the approval of a plan for teachers entitled “12 Sciences for Sexuality and Affectivity,” authorized by the Ministry of Education and Science (MEC). However, these LGBTQ+phobic materials contain religious bias, spread misinformation, and reinforce gender stereotypes.

The march concluded in Democracy Square with the reading of the manifesto and an arts festival. From the stage, the rallying cry embraced the demonstrators to the rhythm of one of the most traditional songs of the 8M and 25N marches: “Dancing with your comrade is something you like, you like.”
