BUENOS AIRES, Argentina. The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association for Latin America and the Caribbean ( presents the Latin American and Caribbean LGBTI+ Training School . It is geared towards LGBTI activists with experience leading organizations and their social and political processes.
The school is scheduled to launch on October 16th and will offer various online courses until November 16th. Registration will be open until October 15th on the website.
“We know the importance of providing tools, information, knowledge, and strategies to the 300 organizations belonging to ILGALAC, as well as those that do not belong to our organization,” Ari Vera Morales, ILGALAC regional co-secretary and president of the organization Almas Cautivas Agencia Presentes .
Education to counter violence
The school initiative was born from a partnership the Triángulo Foundation of Spain and the Equality Foundation of Bolivia, which was called “Accompanying each other in the Pandemics”.
This support, explains Ari Vera Morales, was implemented and operationalized by Ilgalac. The organization represents more than 300 civil society organizations throughout Latin America.
“The stronger we are as a movement, the more tools we have, the better we can counteract the rise in femicides, hate crimes, and exclusionary rhetoric. We can also break down or reduce the inequality gap for LGBTI people in the Latin American region,” says the regional co-secretary of Ilgalac.
This training for leaders and activists in the Latin American region "strengthens the movement in the face of the increase in hate speech and anti-rights rhetoric; in the face of the increasing number of absent states that do not guarantee the exercise of human rights for diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual characteristics," he adds.
What is the goal of the school?
For Vera Morales, “the urgency of this training is to provide our members and LGBT activists in our region with knowledge about how to strengthen their organizations through fundraising campaigns.”
Another important point, he emphasizes, is learning how to approach private sector organizations such as businesses. "To create very specific actions in favor of LGBTI people, whether in a local, national, or international context."
Ari Vera Morales emphasizes that it is essential to learn how to conduct strategic litigation, “to guarantee access to human rights for LGBTI people in countries where sexual and gender diversity is not even discussed. LGBTI pride marches are not permitted. The State only looks at other populations, somehow disregarding or not caring about the exercise of and guaranteeing of a life free from violence for the LGBTI population.”
Four axes
It consists of four virtual courses: “Political Advocacy” ; “Strategic Litigation” ; “Strategic Communication” and “Access to Financing” .
The design of this training program has four fundamental axes:
● Strengthen the planning and management of LGBTI+ organizations in the region in accordance with their social and political agendas.
● To enhance the capabilities and skills of LGBTI+ leaders
● Promote networking among LGBTI+ social and political organizations in the region.
● To investigate strategic communication, management, planning and financing tools to improve both the sustainability of LGBTI+ organizations and their political influence in the region.

To study
The school is offered online, and the courses, which last 20 hours (including time for completing assignments and participating in forums), are not sequential. Students can freely choose the number and topics of courses they take.
Regarding the assessment, the course is organized into five consecutive half-hour classes with materials and time for consultation. Two practical assignments, one midterm and one final, will be required.
The first class will be held on October 16th, and subsequent classes will be on October 23rd and 30th, and November 6th, 13th, and 16th. From November 20th onwards, there will be a period to review or refine the practical assignments.
The activity was coordinated by ILGALAC, within the framework of the project "Together in the face of pandemics" (funded by AEXCID), in collaboration with the LGBTI Equality Foundation of Bolivia and the Triángulo Foundation
