Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA . Unlike most countries that celebrate Pride in June and July, in Argentina many of the marches take place in October and November. The country's first Lesbian and Gay Pride march was held in Buenos Aires on July 3, 1992. It commemorated the Stonewall riots . On that historic day, some 300 people marched down Avenida de Mayo to demand human rights. Years later, it was decided to move the date to November so that the spring weather would embrace the LGBTQ+ community, especially those living with HIV, without exposing them to the cold days of June.
November was chosen because it is the anniversary month of the creation of the first sexual diversity organization in Argentina and Latin America: Nuestro Mundo.
