They condemn the swearing-in of a senator and a councilman accused of child sexual abuse
Organizations marched in Asunción to draw attention to child sexual abuse, in rejection of the inauguration of Senator-elect Rafael Esquivel and Councilor-elect Luis Fernando Ramos.

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay. Under the slogan "No rapists in power!", organizations made up of children and adolescents marched in Asunción to draw attention to child sexual abuse, protesting the inauguration of Senator-elect Rafael Esquivel, alias Mbururu, and Councilman-elect Luis Fernando Ramos. Both are charged with sexual abuse.




The march departed from Plaza Uruguaya and proceeded to the Pantheon of Heroes, as part of the National Day of Struggle against the Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. The mobilization was organized by the Movement against Sexual Violence against Children and Adolescents and the Paraguayan Feminist Network .


According to data from the Public Prosecutor's Office, a case of sexual abuse against children and adolescents is reported every two hours. In the last five years, 17,156 victims of sexual abuse between the ages of 0 and 17 have been registered. Eighty percent of these abuse cases originate within the family.
