Free virtual workshop: Telling the story of sexual and cultural diversity from a human rights perspective

Agencia Presentes is hosting a Journalism Workshop for students, journalists, editors, and communicators in Paraguay: Reporting on sexual and cultural diversity from a human rights perspective. Virtual and free, with prior registration.

On Saturday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Paraguay time), Agencia Presentes is convening a Journalism Workshop for students, journalists, editors and communicators from Paraguay: Telling the story of sexual and cultural diversity from a human rights perspective.

Offered virtually, it has limited spaces and requires prior registration.

Goals

To contribute to the development of good journalistic practices for communicating gender, sexual and cultural diversity issues from a human rights perspective in Paraguay.

Workshop Contents

The workshop consists of a series of modules designed to introduce and explore thematic areas focused on sexual and cultural diversity. It aims to provide tools for improving journalistic coverage and broadening the agenda to meet current communication needs.

Some of the topics:

-Introduction: what we talk about when we talk about diversity. 

-Media: coverage of topics related to cultural diversity and sexual diversity.

-Indigenous and peasant identities. Cultural identity as a category.

-New decolonizing narratives. The role of the media in fighting stigmatization, prejudice and racism.

-Gender and diversity perspective in Paraguay.  

-Useful resources for reporting human rights news in difficult scenarios.

-Tools for building good journalistic practices.

Aimed at: Students, journalists, communicators, media editors, people who carry out journalistic communication tasks in organizations or who research these topics.

Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Paraguay)

Registration closes: March 21, 2023

The selected participants will receive confirmation of their registration on March 22nd with the link to the virtual classroom of the workshop.

Requirements

-Be a communicator, journalist, editor, student of communication or related fields of knowledge. Whether as independent workers (freelancers) or linked to media or organizations.

-Living in Paraguay.

Journalist specializing in gender and human rights, professor of Human Rights Narratives in the Master's Program in Journalism at the National University of La Plata (UNLP) and of media management at the Metropolitan University for Education and Labor (UMET). Co-founder and co-director of Agencia Presentes.
