What was the first lesbian scene you saw on television or in a movie?
Lesbian representation in film and television is scarce, fleeting, and problematic. We asked on our social media: What was the first lesbian scene you saw on television or in a film?

Where are the lesbians? Sometimes it seems like they're nowhere to be found. Lesbian representation in film and TV is scarce, fleeting— like that kiss in Buzz Lightyear —or it's often problematic.
A few days ago we published an article about the documentary "Bad Reputation ," which explores Argentine television archives about lesbians. The verdict? Lonely, troubled, invisible, hysterical, and in the closet.
Following that, we asked them who their first lesbian role models in fiction were. This is what they told us.
“In Friends, when Ross found out his wife Carol was a lesbian. I remember it well because later in English class we were reading a story in which a girl talked about her girlfriend. And I asked the teacher if she was a lesbian. Laughing, she told me no, that she was her female friend.”.

“I discovered the series The L Word when it was broadcast in the early hours of the morning on Warner Channel. And from then on, I stayed up all night to secretly watch the series.”.

“A scene from the movie When Night Falls. At that time I was a teenager, the daughter of Catholic parents, a student at a convent school, and it helped me a lot to know that this could happen to anyone. I felt much better after seeing it because I thought it only happened to me, that something was wrong with me, and now I know perfectly well that it is the most normal thing, and I feel very proud to be a lesbian ❤️.”

“In erotic films on The Film Zone, which they showed in the early hours of the morning, hahaha, always secretly with friends, when we were very young. I remember that it caught my attention a lot and I realized that it generated different feelings in me, something that didn't happen to my friends. I think all of that contributed to me feeling ashamed or even isolating myself a little, because they were 'disgusted' by it, and they expressed it openly, but I didn't.”

"It was with Haruka and Michiru from Sailor Moon or with Xena and Gabrielle from Xena, haha. (From Paraguay, but I assume both aired in Argentina too). Nothing explicit, but I really felt what was between them." 😍😍😍”.

“When I was more involved with lesbianism but still young, there was also Sugar Rush. I still cry when they cancelled it.”.

“The girls from tATu (it was all staged, but it was the first time I saw two girls kissing).”
