Santa Fe: Alejandra Ironici's partner charged with her transfemicide

This morning in the Santa Fe courts, a hearing was held regarding the hate crime against Alejandra Ironici. "It was a transfemicide," the prosecutor stated. She also applied the legal definition of femicide.


SANTA FE CITY, Santa Fe. This morning, the arraignment hearing was held in the case investigating the death of Alejandra Ironici, a trans activist from Santa Fe, who was found murdered last Sunday. The victim's current partner, a 32-year-old man whose initials are DHB, was arrested in connection with her death.

Prosecutor Alejandra Del Río Ayala stated that "he is charged with stabbing the victim 46 times, resulting in fatal injuries, particularly to the neck and face, according to the autopsy." She also confirmed that the assailant threw alcohol on the victim and set part of his body on fire.

It was a transfemicide

"Given the context and the person, since she was a well-known figure, a woman who dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of people, especially trans people; this makes it not a common crime but a transfemicide . And there is also the element of femicide, because she was a trans woman and, of course, the aggravating factor of the relationship because they were a couple ," she listed.

When asked specifically about the motive for the crime, Ayala Del Río emphasized, "It was hate." The prosecutor confirmed that multiple items were seized and that some of the evidence will be presented on Friday at the hearing for precautionary measures.
Regarding the possible sentence the accused could face, she clarified that there are three charges that could result in life imprisonment.


At the end of the hearing, Pamela Rocchi, a trans leader from Santa Fe, expressed her grief and anger, demanding that "Alejandra be the last." Regarding the aggravating circumstances, she emphasized that " it is very important that this be classified as a transfemicide for our community, and it is important that we talk about cis-sexist violence."
