Who we are and why we do it
From its inception in November 2016,
Agencia Presentes The outlet emerged at a time of increasing violence against LGBTIQ+ people in Latin America, yet also at a time when this violence receives very little journalistic coverage and space on the agendas of mainstream media. In some cases, when news stories do reach the media, they often reflect stigmatizing perspectives that promote discrimination and hate speech. It is proven that hate speech significantly contributes to the increase in violence, as is the case during election campaigns.
Luchadoras is a feminist collective in Mexico that uses technology to advance the fight for gender equality; telling stories of warrior women in the digital space, and working for an Internet free of violence.
The project was born in 2012 with the aim of challenging gender stereotypes in the media that reproduce gender inequalities through sexist narratives such as revictimization or the predominance of images of women associated with the imposed reproductive role.
Both initiatives share the conviction that the practice of narrative journalism plays a crucial role as a tool for social change, and through this collaboration they seek to mutually enrich each other by exchanging feminist and sexual diversity perspectives to strengthen both media outlets, and also extend their tools to a group of Latin American journalists.
