Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has asked the education ministry to prepare a bill to ban the alleged teaching of "gender ideology" (gender-focused education that integrates sexual diversity) in the country's primary schools.
“I ordered the Ministry of Education, with the objective of the principle of comprehensive protection of the child, provided for in the Constitution, to prepare a bill that prohibits gender ideology in primary school,” the president posted on his personal Twitter account, generating a wave of rejection of his announcement.

Bolsonaro, a 65-year-old retired military officer, has been criticized for his misogynistic, racist, and homophobic rhetoric, and has caused the South American giant to backslide on fundamental human rights, according to activists.
His speech has polarized the country and has caused serious international criticism for its militaristic and extremist rhetoric.
For his part, the governor of Sao Paulo, João Doria, also posted on his Twitter account that he ordered the state's Secretary of Education to remove teaching materials that supposedly put students at risk by teaching them about "gender ideology".

“We were alerted to an unacceptable error in the school supplies for 8th-grade students. I asked the Secretary of Education to immediately collect the materials and investigate those responsible. We do not agree with, nor do we accept, any apologies for, gender ideology,” Doria posted.
