Through his Twitter account, the deputy and presidential pre-candidate of the National Party, Carlos Iafigliola, announced that enough signatures had been gathered to call a pre-referendum to repeal the Comprehensive Law for Trans People .

“I just received confirmation from the Electoral Court that the signatures we submitted have been validated; we reached the required 2%,” she stated. “Therefore, I am delighted to announce that there will be a pre-referendum to repeal the trans law,” Iafigliola added in her tweet, in which she also thanked the 70,000 Uruguayans who “supported” her initiative.

Based on the number of signatures collected, Iafigliola and his campaign partner, Álvaro Dastugue, secured a referendum on whether to repeal the law. When asked by the newspaper El País when the referendum would take place, Iafigliola said that, based on his discussions with the Electoral Court, he doesn't believe it will be before the primary elections because "there isn't enough time."

Iafigliola and Dastugue were denounced in March by the National Campaign for a Comprehensive Law for Trans People, which considered that to gather the signatures they resorted to a discourse that incites hatred.
