#8M in Peru: "We are not hysterical, we are historic"

Approximately 5,000 women, trans people, and lesbians marched along Avenida de la Peruanidad in Lima toward Plaza San Martín to declare, "We want to live." This March 8th, they took to the streets to protest the 31 femicides and at least two hate crimes (official figures are unavailable); a nearly two-year-long legal battle against the gender perspective in education, seeking its removal from the national curriculum; and the rise of fundamentalisms that deny the humanity of women and LGBTQ+ people, while also denying the everyday violence they experience.
