In Argentina, some long-awaited news: trans activist Lara María Bertolini, after a legal battle, achieved a landmark ruling, and her ID will now read "transvestite femininity" instead of "woman." And some bad news: the media continues to violate the law by revealing whether a person is or was living with HIV. Lucas Gutiérrez wrote about this and asks, "When do HIV-positive bodies matter?"
We also remember what carnivals were like in the 80s, when transvestites and trans people were criminalized, and only during those six days of parades were they free to go out in public without being imprisoned.
From the region, they reported on the hate crime against a lesbian activist in Colombia: Liliana Holguín was murdered in Caucasia, and her murder is the sixth against LGBT people in that municipality in 14 months.
Finally, the week's agenda: Thursday is Lesbian Visibility Day in Argentina, and there will be a demonstration to demand #JusticeForHigui in front of the National Congress. On Friday there will be demonstrations for #8M in several countries in the region.
