From early on, a green and cross-cutting tide filled the streets surrounding the National Congress with green scarves, slogans, art, music and street shows in the different stages and tents.

After a Senate debate that began after 10 a.m. on August 8, and following more than 16 hours of session, the upper house rejected the Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy (VTP) bill. At 2:40 a.m., the tally was 38 votes against and 31 in favor, with two abstentions and one absence.

From early morning, a green wave filled the streets surrounding the National Congress with green scarves, slogans, art, music, and street performances on various stages and in tents. On the other side of Rivadavia Avenue, toward the south of the city, organizations that oppose abortion gathered with their light blue scarves. And once the results were known, they celebrated with fireworks, confirming that abortion will remain clandestine.

“The fight has already been won, and it's a cross-cutting issue. Sooner or later, the law will pass,” Lisa Kernel of Casa Brandon told Presentes. “The work of bringing abortion out of the shadows, of having been able to come together, is something that can't be undone.”
