“If you don’t burn here, you’ll burn in hell, and if that doesn’t happen, I’ll do it myself,” recounted Jacqueline Ortega, the owner of the establishment, describing what the assailant shouted during the attack. Esteban Guzmán, president of the group in Biobío, said that “around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the man, who lives in a church next to the Frida Kahlo Club, threw kerosene from the fence separating the buildings and then set fire to some of the premises.” He added, “While no one was injured and the damage was minor, this was only due to the quick reaction of the club owner and the customers.” The attack resulted in four fires: in the bushes in front of the premises, on the entrance gate, and on the fence separating the nightclub from the church, MOVILH reported in a statement. Ortega said that a loud explosion was heard and that customers alerted them that their terrace was on fire. “All of us who were there put out the flames to prevent them from spreading. When we went outside to see what was happening, we realized that our neighbor from the Evangelical Church was holding a can of paraffin. Without any shame or remorse, he told us that he had started the fire, and even worse, he threatened to kill us for being depraved.” Guzmán said that legal action will be taken against the person who committed the attack. “His act sets a negative and disastrous precedent for the safety of LGBT people that must be combated immediately and with the full force of the law,” he said. The Investigative Police (PDI) are investigating the incident, according to MOVILH.
