#Agenda7M Lesbian Visibility Day: for La Pepa, for Higui and for everyone

This will be the fifth #7M since the lesbian women's movement in Argentina began commemorating Lesbian Visibility Day on the anniversary of the murder of Natalia "La Pepa" Gaitán. There will be demonstrations in Constitución, Congreso, Florida, and Morón.

Constitución Station, City of Buenos Aires – 4 PM. “The presumption of heterosexuality, harassment, discrimination in the neighborhood, in workplaces, dismissals, within the current framework of labor flexibility, in daily life, are forms and modalities of violence that lesbians suffer every day, with murder being the most extreme. The construction of our identity, biased by heteronormativity and the capitalist system, leads us to be exposed to double discrimination and marginalization: in our status as women because historically our rights and conditions have been violated, and in our being lesbians, condemning us for deviating from heterosexual norms. We are lesbians and bisexual women, and as such, we are workers in all spheres. What is not named does not exist, and what does not exist has no rights.” “Stop the violence against lesbians and bisexual women.” “Stop discriminating against us for our identity.” “Stop discriminating against us for our gender expression and our desires.”

Aristóbulo del Valle Station, Florida – 5pm.

“We are gathering to occupy public spaces to commemorate Pepa Gaitán and to reclaim the memory of those of us who continue to support this oppressive government every step of the way, transforming this sexist and patriarchal society. We are called together by the multiple oppressions our bodies experience, which compel us to organize in resistance. We want to take to the streets and demand once again the rights and respect that have been denied us, to make ourselves visible as a collective, and to build tools of struggle that make us creative (once again) to transform a world that does not recognize our lesbian, fighting, desiring, and dissident bodies. We are a handful of self-organized collectives and independent groups coming together for the March 7th demonstration. Among them are: Permanent Lesbian Assembly, Tortas de Barrio – FOL, Darío Santillán Popular Front, Popular and Dissident Feminism~MP La Dignidad, Grupo Malezas, Actibanda, and Varones Antipatriarchal groups, the Descamisadxs Gender Equality Front, and Brandon. Starting at 5 PM at the Aristóbulo del Valle Station (Belgrano Norte Line), a few meters from the Saavedra Bridge. There will be readings, music, performances, a trans feminist fair, an art space for children, screen printing with queer screen printers, and lesbian soccer with Fútbol Militante. #ForTheWayItStuff #LesbianVisibility #TortillaPower #LesbiansInStruggle #CakeResistance #DissidentFeminism

National Congress, City of Buenos Aires – 5pm.

“The case of 'La Pepa' Gaitán is the ultimate expression of the violence that lesbians suffer in this patriarchal, sexist, and heterosexist society in which we live. It is a day to remember, reflect, make visible, and condemn the mistreatment and violence against lesbians. Within the context of this day, we decided to talk about the case of Higui, a poor lesbian from the outskirts of Buenos Aires, who was imprisoned for defending herself, not only from the attacks of her aggressors—who became victims themselves—but also from a series of systematic, homophobic attacks that judged, mistreated, and imprisoned her without asking the slightest question.” “I would defend myself like Higui too” “Attacked by a poor lesbian, imprisoned for defending herself” “Stop the crimes of lesbotransphobia” “Down with the capitalist and heteropatriarchal system” “No one else should be imprisoned for defending themselves” #AbsolutionforHigui

Plaza San Martín, Morón, Buenos Aires province – 6 pm.

We're kids from the western suburbs of Buenos Aires who've come together to occupy public space, making our existence and resistance visible. We want to live freely in our identities and sexualities. We're into soccer and the street market, hanging out in shacks, tenderness and snobbery. Come with your ball, your mate, your towel, and your beer, because from 6 PM onwards we'll be playing soccer and making out. “We resist, we exist, we desire” “For Pepa Gaitan, for Nicole Saavedra, for Higui”    ]]>
