The Chilean bus says: “Nicolás has the right to a dad and a mom,” a slogan that references the children’s story “Nicolás Has Two Dads,” launched by the Movement for Homosexual Liberation (Movilh), which sought to raise awareness of same-sex parent families.

“In every family there may be a person with a different gender identity, a different sexual orientation, and Chilean families and the Chilean State, among others, should have the tools to allow them to address these situations without discrimination, violence, or having to endure traumatic experiences,” said Rolando Jiménez, current director of the Human Rights area at MOVILH. In Chile there is still no gender identity law – the bill has been under discussion in Congress for years – so all legal changes must be made through the courts.
