Trans activist Britany Cervantes Bravo, a member of the organization Feminas, was attacked by two men who stabbed her in the chest with a piece of glass. “I’m standing here peacefully, working, and two guys came and stuck a piece of glass in my chest, and the municipal police didn’t do anything,” she says in a video shared on social media. The attack occurred in downtown Lima. The young woman received medical attention and is out of danger. In 2016, there were seven homicides of trans women and 191 reported cases of human rights violations against members of this community. In a statement, various organizations demanded the prosecution and punishment of the case, which “could have ended in the femicide of another trans woman.” Miluska Luzquiños, activist and founder of Casa Trans Zuleymi, told Presentes that the attack against Letsmar is being documented in the database of the Center for Documentation and Trans Situation in Latin America and the Caribbean (CEDOSTAL).
