Letsmar Bravo was attacked by two men who stabbed her in the chest with a piece of glass. “I was standing here peacefully, working, and two guys came and stuck a piece of glass in my chest, and the security guards didn't do anything,” she says in a video shared on social media. Her father and a doctor pressured her into testosterone treatment, but she stopped taking it. Today, she is 54 years old and an activist.
October 26th is Intersex Awareness Day, commemorating the first public demonstration by intersex people. It took place in 1996 in Boston, USA, to demand bodily autonomy and protest against birth defects. The term intersex encompasses a wide range of natural variations in the body.
