Various social organizations and LGBTQ+ activists came together to condemn the arbitrary arrest of Mariana Gómez , wife of Rocío Girat, last Tuesday at Constitución Station in Buenos Aires. "We condemn the escalation of police violence affecting a wide variety of social groups. And we are particularly urgent to demonstrate against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity," stated the call to action, which quickly went viral on social media.

The activists who gathered also expressed their concern about the police and institutional violence affecting LGBTQ+ communities, both in the city of Mar del Plata and in other cities throughout the country. The news of Mariana's arbitrary arrest resonated particularly strongly in Mar del Plata. The story of his wife, Rocío, is well-known. More than two years ago, Rocío made headlines in all the media outlets when she decided to go public. the sexual abuse she suffered Mariana was also a victim of sexual abuse in her adolescence by her stepfather and step-grandfather. Her father, Marcelo Girat, a Naval Petty Officer, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
