#HiguiLibre: an achievement of feminisms in which we all participate"

Say Sacayán, a member of the Working Group for the Freedom and Acquittal of Eva Higui de Jesús, writes about the petition she submitted months ago to her sister Diana's shrine: Justice for Higui. She also analyzes the achievements and challenges of inclusive and cross-cutting feminisms.

At Diana's shrine, I had only made this request: Justice for Higui. As soon as I heard the news, I ran to give you your glass of wine. I thought: on the path to Higui's freedom, we cried, we fought, and we made up. But the important thing is that she's free. And we're going to keep fighting, because that's what you taught us. Higui obtained this "extraordinary release," and that means she'll await trial while free. Now our task, along with the lawyer, is going to be to reverse Higui's situation and establish self-defense in a case of attempted corrective rape. Higui's freedom is an achievement of social organization. That puts us at the forefront in terms of empowerment within the diverse feminist movement that includes us all: lesbians, trans women, trans people, and women in general. Carolina Abregú, Azucena (Higui's sister) and Say Sacayán in a complaint before the prosecutor's office of Malvinas Argentinas.  These are very dynamic constructions. We often build them in the moment of action, in the street, in our homes, at school, and in our neighborhoods. Those of us in these organizations have also decided to fight in the courts. We want to challenge their sexist and patriarchal traditions, from within the law, by presenting ourselves before them and appealing for equality in every way possible. Say Sacayán participates in the Working Group for the freedom and acquittal of Higui and the Anti-Discrimination Liberation Movement.       ]]>
