Analía Higui de Jesús turns 43 today and was transferred from Unit 51 in Magdalena to the Forensic Advisory Office in San Martín, where she underwent psychiatric and psychological evaluations. A hearing regarding her request for release will be held tomorrow at noon. Higui de Jesús left Unit 51 in Magdalena this morning (where she was transferred last week) to return to San Martín for the evaluations. This is not just any day: she turns 43 today and has been imprisoned for 234 days for defending herself against a group of men who tried to rape her while saying things like, "I'm going to make you feel like a woman, you whore, you lesbian." In the struggle, Higui fatally wounded one of them and was charged with "simple homicide." She has been imprisoned since October 16.

“For her birthday, a group of women collected cookies and sweets to see if we could bring them to her in prison, but we don't know where she'll be today because she has a hearing tomorrow. So I don't know if she'll be able to receive them,” she told Presents Carolina Abregú, who has supported Higui from the beginning, first through the Gender Advocacy Office of Malvinas Argentinas and now through the feminist group Furia Feminista, is also involved. Higui can only receive visits from her lawyer and her mother and sisters, who are very present in her life.

The cause

“Today we were at the Forensic Advisory Office in San Martín. There, a psychiatric evaluation was conducted, with Dr. Enrique Stola as the defense expert. The psychological evaluation, conducted by Alicia Castro as the defense expert, has already been completed. The psychiatric evaluation has been adjourned until next time,” he told Presents Higui's defense attorney, Raquel Hermida Leyenda.

A month ago, the Court of Guarantees No. 6 of San Martín (temporarily under the charge of Judge Raúl Luchelli Ramos) He rejected the request for release from prison Higui's case was presented by her lawyer, Hermida Leyenda. A week later, the Justice for Higui commission, along with her family, held a national conference to demand her freedom and on June 3, one of the slogans of the #NiUnaMenos march was #FreedomForHigui.

A technical hearing

Tomorrow at noon in the San Martín Courthouse, a technical hearing will be held where lawyer Hermida Leyenda will present the grounds for the appeal of the extraordinary release request that was denied in May. “The hearing will last about 20 minutes and will be closed to the public. It’s a formality,” Hermida Leyenda told Presentes. The Permanent Lesbian Assembly has called for a demonstration tomorrow at 11:00 AM in front of the Court of Appeals to demand Higui’s freedom and acquittal. The address is Ricardo Balbín 1753, San Martín.       ]]>
