A group of young men attacked a trans woman in Córdoba and filmed it in the General Paz neighborhood, near the city's civic center. The attackers posted the video this week as a "joke" on their social media accounts, generating outrage among some of their contacts, who then shared it widely. After several days of searching, LGBTQ+ organizations located the victim, who is now safe. Updated: April 29, 2017 at 5:30 PM. Last Wednesday, a video began circulating on Facebook clearly showing a group of at least three young men confronting a trans woman identified by some of her friends as Adriana. One of them punches her hard in the face without saying a word, knocking her to the ground. The men then burst into laughter.

The brutal attack occurred a week ago in the General Paz neighborhood, near the civic center of the capital, on a side street next to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Adriana was working as a prostitute, and since then, her whereabouts and circumstances had been unknown. "ATTTA and Mujeres de la Colectiva Diversidad (Women of the Diversity Collective) have been searching for her. We established networks with colleagues who work in sex work areas, and now we've found her. She's from Tucumán and was in Córdoba for the weekend. Now, her colleagues and family are waiting for her back in Tucumán. She's shaken and swollen, but otherwise, she's okay. When she's feeling better, she'll file a report," Celeste Giacchetta, coordinator of ATTTA Córdoba (Association of Transvestites, Transsexuals, and Transgender People of Argentina), Presentes

"There is systematic violence against the trans community."

Giacchetta denounced the recent increase in poverty and violence against transvestites and transgender people, many of whom are driven by hunger to prostitution for the first time. Meanwhile, on the same day the video went viral, the Córdoba newspaper La Voz del Interior published a note Regarding the “red-light district” and the neighbors’ complaints, feminist activist Noe Gall said, “That article is very stigmatizing, and the girls were photographed without their permission. In the last year, the violence against trans people, which is constant, has escalated. Just recently, a colleague recounted being denied entry to an establishment simply for being trans and being mistreated. A few years ago, this wasn’t so common.” “The video is horrific, but not surprising. Here in Córdoba, Laura Moyano was murdered, and no one has been brought to justice. The police themselves circulated images of Laura’s mutilated body. There is systematic violence against the trans community. This happens everywhere, but in Córdoba, beating trans women is part of the social and patriarchal culture, and people think it’s funny.” PresentsLaura Moyano was a trans sex worker who was brutally murdered in July 2015. Her body was found in Villa Allende Parque, and the autopsy showed that she had been beaten with a rock and strangled. Almost two years later, the perpetrators remain free.

  1. The helplessness of not being able to seduce anyone. The sum of so many emotional miseries. It breeds cowardice and leads to the attack on the trans woman. Posting on social media only exposes the crime and the miserable impotence. Solidarity with trans people. And a cultural struggle to end gender violence!

  2. Beating someone up for fun. Sick minds. Then they have sex and have kids and that's how they raise them.

  4. It hurts to my core, Córdoba needs to reflect on this now. My strongest support to trans people!
