He stated this in an interview with the Peruvian news site Trome. The declaration comes as a shock, following a series of advances for the Peruvian LGBT community. – Do you agree with same-sex marriage? – No. Blunt and without mincing words, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski made this clear in an interview with the Trome . The statement came after a series of advances in recent months for the Peruvian LGBT community: while Congress passed the law against hate crimes and discrimination against LGBT people ; the judiciary recognized same-sex marriage and a group of legislators presented a gender identity bill . When asked if his positions clash with the conservative majority in Peru, the president replied that they did not. “I am a religious person. Of course, we have inherited some things in school curricula that I am not enthusiastic about, but they were already there from the previous government, what could we do?” He said this in relation to the school curriculum that promotes equality. What's striking is that in recent days, both the Ministry of Women and the Ministry of Education expressed their support for education without discrimination. For now, at least, it's known that PPK is in favor of civil unions between same-sex couples. Will he stand by it?
