Five Cuban LGBTQ+ organizations shared a letter on social media announcing the creation of the “Amancay Diana Sacayán Cuban Initiative,” a front formed in response to setbacks in the investigation into the murder of the trans activist, who was killed in October 2015. “From Cuba, we demand that her murder not go unpunished,” the statement reads, which we reproduce below. Within the framework of actions for World Human Rights Day, we are launching the Amancay Diana Sacayán Cuban Initiative , in solidarity and support for the family and friends who have joined the Justice for Amancay Diana Sacayán and the members of the Anti-Discrimination Liberation Movement ( MAL ) who have continued her struggle. Through Say Kahlo , brother of Amancay Diana Sacayán , we have learned that the Justice for Diana Sacayán Commission, Stop Transvesticide, submitted a report to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights regarding the progress and setbacks in the criminal investigation into the transvesticide of this renowned human rights defender. The report expresses the concern of the Commission and the family of Amancay Diana Sacayán regarding the recent decision by the National Criminal Court of Instruction No. 33 (in Argentina), presided over by Gustavo Pierreti, to close the investigation into the murder. https://www.facebook.com/notes/mal/… Amancay Diana Sacayán, a trans woman, South American, Indigenous, rebel, activist, and revolutionary from Argentina, found dead on October 13, 2015, is a leading figure in social activism for Latin America and the world. Their struggles, those of the oppressed, the poor, the dissident bodies, cannot and will not be forgotten. Their murder constitutes a transvesticide, a hate crime, and as such, it must be investigated and prosecuted. From #Cuba, we demand that their murder not go unpunished, that the perpetrators be brought to justice, and that the living conditions of #transpeople and the ongoing violations of their rights be made public. No to #homophobia , No to #transvesticide , No to #transphobia , No to #HateCrimes . No Forgetting, No Forgiving! Amancay Diana Sacayán! Present! Now and Forever! The Cuban Initiative Amancay Diana Sacayán, through its Facebook page, will monitor the ongoing legal proceedings and support the efforts of the Justice for Diana Sacayán Commission. Stop Transvesticide. As more activists, projects, networks, institutions, and other social actors in Cuba join, new actions will be organized and announced in due course.
